Re: Show us your Ciclop scans!

I think I had this issue momentarily, but it seems resolved. Keep in mind that any time you change your scanning environment (new light added, more sun from a window, etc) it's a good idea to re-run the wizard and possibly other advanced calibration options. The Camera Intrinsic calibration is compl...

Show us your Ciclop scans!

Here's a quick scan I did today just for fun. Most people will probably recognize the statue as Hotei, Budai or "The Laughing Buddha". You can learn more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budai The STL turned out a bit lumpy https://tamarintech.com/assets/images/hotei_ciclop_scan/hotei_pr...

Re: How is everyone doing with their Ciclop?

I'm still working my way through the software tool chain to convert the point cloud to an STL. Not trivial! I've only had my Ciclop for 2 weeks and feel like I've made some good progress. I use Blender and MeshLab along with some custom experimental tools based on numpy, etc. The easiest way to res...

How is everyone doing with their Ciclop?

I think I'm a couple of months behind many people in working with Horus and the Ciclop, but I haven't seen many scans show up in the forums. How are your results? Should there be a gallery thread so we can share results? I've been kind of obsessed with trying to scan a Tux toy (seemed fitting) but h...

Were you using MeshLab to rebuild the mesh? If so, you have to build a mesh before you can export it or you'll end up with an empty STL.

Adjusting the camera focus on the Ciclop

I made a post a day or two ago, but it ended up in software. Here it is again: The C270 has a fixed (manual) focus mechanism. The focus is just beyond the scanning platform. If you are consistently seeing out of focus images in your previews you might consider tweaking the manual focus (BQ Labs sugg...

Re: LulzBot 3D Scanner

Tried to install on Linux today and when I ran Horus, it said I must have picked the wrong camera ID. Check the terminal window. If you see some errors about exposure and HIGUI then you are using the wrong version of OpenCV. There's a BQ Labs specific version of OpenCV you need. If you're on Fedora...

Couple of days with Horus and the Ciclop

The assembly of the unit was mostly a breeze. The right laser holder had a print artifact that needed to be removed with a drill bit. BQ's instructions were good (and in 7 languages!). It took less than an hour to get up and running even with the extra complication of the right laser holder and reco...

It looks like you have some gaps that you can clean up with the camera settings. Try exposure/saturation or even gain (if you can change it) to get Horus to pick up the laser on darker colors.

Re: Tips for scanning with the Ciclop

Set the focus on the camera!
Save your scan profile(s). No two objects seem to scan quite the same.
Use the Video panel in the Scanning mode to monitor the line as registered by Horus for generating the points. Super helpful.
