Poor HIPS printing

Hi folks, well, I'm trying my hand at HIPS and I'm having a heck of a time. I finally got it to stick to the bed (after 10 attempts) but for the life of me, I can't get a decent first layer... I am using a Taz5 with an Aerostruder head. Cura (latest version) and Gizmodorks Black HIPS. I've messed wi...

Re: Prints delaminating

Also, what are you printing? Something large? Whats your environmental situation? Controlled?

Pictures are worth a 1000 words too ; )

Cura 3.2.23 windows quits unexpectedly

I recently installed the latest stable Cura from Lulzbot, and after following the directions on removing old files, it works fine. Slow to load, but I think that typical. However, the app will simply crash? quit? go away? randomly. It can be after 10 minutes, it can be 4 hours. But ultimately it dis...

Re: Makergeeks filament, ugh, the struggles

Yeah, ya know, I had 3 spools of the maker series PLA prior to this order, and I printed the F1 OpenRC project with them. It was flawless. Then this fiasco. I just can't afford, nor have the patients for such varied quality. What really did for me was when, on the THIRD replacement shipment, I told ...

Re: Makergeeks filament, ugh, the struggles

Final update: Well, in the end, they sent two replacement orders (2 spools each). Non of them came close to 2.85 dia. At best, I got 2.95. So, that MIGHT work, but seems too thick. For small prints, it may not build back pressure, or get bound up, but for large prints, I wouldn't trust it. Makergeek...

Re: Filament stuck in extruder

Looking at the image, I would venture to say that you are over extruding. Your lines look a little bloby. Also, you might be a little high off your build plate. First thing is to reduce your extrusion multiplier (Flow rate in Cura). I would start by reducing by 10% and see where that takes you. You'...

Re: Filament stuck in extruder

Two things:

1. Looking at the filament image, I suspect you have your idler too tight. Try backing it down. When filament grinds, usually it goes about half way through (or less), your seems awfully deep.

2. Can you post a pick of a failed print? I would like to see the top of the model.

Re: Makergeeks filament, ugh, the struggles

Update #2:

They sent replacement spools, NEXT DAY!. What great service!

However...

BOTH SPOOLS ARE OUT OF SPEC!! (2.94 - 3.00)

Contacted and told them either send refund, or have someone test the next round of spools they send. They said they would test and resend.

Will update.

Re: Filament stuck in extruder

Couple other things to check: 1. Build plate/tip clearance. If you are consistently failing at the same point in the print, it could be back pressure from the filament being too close to the build plate. How are your first layers? Clean? 2. Retraction: if your retraction is too long, you could be su...
