I was hoping that someone has figured a way to make a filament runout detector using a usb optical mouse. I was looking at an old Mac usb mouse, and it has everything needed for the job. Would it be possible to chamfer the bottom edge to eliminate the elephants foot?
That is what I do when I have a situation where, for example I am making a close fitting cylinder to go in a hole.

You are using tweezers to remove drooled filament as the print is homing/starting, right? I have never had to clean nozzle with scrubber pad, although I think it is a good idea.

I am trying to use "vase" mode to print several identical parts on my Taz 5. No problem printing one at a time. However when I try to print two pieces, separated on the print bed so there won't be any mechanical interference between the just completed part and the next one, it prints as if I had not...

i don't know exactly what you are tying to do, but I fine tune printed size with the x,y,z scale function in the older Cura.

If you are using cura, i just sink he model into the print bed by a few mm.
