Prints delaminating

Guys, I'm using ProtoPasta ABS, and just recently I am starting to get splitting of the layers during the print. I haven't changed any settings so am puzzled as to why this has started to happen. I don't have bed adhesion issues, the splitting seems to be happening after the bottom layers are laid d...

Re: good general purpose filament for test parts

Thanks - good point about the different shrinkage rates, I'd never considered that

Cheers

Re: Nozzle size - advantages / disadvantages of different sizes

Thanks for the info guys.

The stuff I print doesn't need high levels of accuracy as they tend to be larger parts, however smaller parts may benefit if I start making any. For now, I'll stick with 0,5mm!

Cheers

Nozzle size - advantages / disadvantages of different sizes

I want to buy some spare nozzles for my printer, and see that there are multiple sizes available. Mine came with a 0,5mm nozzle (one of the biggest), so I'l obviously get one or two of those, but I'm curious as to any advantages offered by the smaller sizes, if any. I can imagine that the prints wou...

good general purpose filament for test parts

If I just need to print a prototype part to see if it is correct, but know that I probably will change the design and print another, I don't want to use up my good filament (and degrade the bed) Is there a filament that good and easy to print, preferably cheap and that would serve just for proof of ...

Re: ABS filament damaging bed, want alternative recommendations

Thanks for the reply, I also agree that PEI is good for ABS... but I think maybe you misunderstood the problem. The PEI is not the problem per se, it is that the adhesive layer is bubbling when you raise the bed temperature to the 110 degrees required for the ABS print. The bubbles occur whether or ...

ABS filament damaging bed, want alternative recommendations

Guys, as posted on the hardware forum, I've discovered that the reason I was getting bad initial layers with my prints was that the PEI sheet was lifting and affecting the first few layers. Essentially it would cause small bubbles in between the layers, then over time these bubbles were growing, and...

Re: Blobby initial layer

Well, it is definitely something to do with he PEI layer; after only three prints the PEI layer on the new bed is starting to bubble, mostly tiny little bubbles but a couple of spots where you can actually feel that the PEI has a raised surface. I'm printing Protopasta ABS, so am heating the bed to ...

Re: Blobby initial layer

Thanks guys - I fitted my new modular bead and the prints are coming out perfect, so I double checked the old bed and found that the PEI layer, where there were little bubbles between it and the glass, gives slightly, so it was slightly spongy. The new bed, which has no bubbles is firm. Looks like t...
