I use my TAZ Workhorse in my classroom, and I’ve had to move it to a back room for all the noise it makes. It’s not an unpleasant noise; it’s almost musical, like an 8 bit keyboard or something. As the nozzle goes around circles the steppers make this electronic musical sound that goes up and down in pitch. My Prusa printers are almost dead quiet, and I can print with them in the room while I’m teaching, but not that Workhorse. Is this normal? It has been like this since it was new.
Yes, it’s normal for 8-bit boards. 32-bit boards are pretty much completely silent. Since upgrading my Rambo to Octopus, the loudest part is the part cooling fan.
