IDC crimpers and parts for LCD

I upgraded my TAZ5 to the new RAMBO 1.4, which came with new LCD cables that match the new connectors on the board. These cables are working, but they are still quite short. I removed the DB25 from the enclosure but can’t feed the cables through and mount the LCD.

I do some hobby electronics, but I’ve never done ribbon cables or connectors, so I think maybe it’s time to start? So two questions:

  1. Anyone have a recommendation for a crimper?
  2. What line of connectors should I use these days? The original on the TAZ5 (BRG71600-010LF) is discontinued.

To answer my own questions: The cheapest Amazon IDC crimper works just fine (unlike Molex which is finicky and better crimpers are better).

I got an assortment end kit, probably from Glarks, and the ends it came with worked just fine. (Also, did you know there’s downloadable IDC shrouds for pin headers on thingiverse? Neat.)
