Libro-Struder

Anybody here looked at this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1212687

Seems like an extruder like this might alleviate some of the issues people have had with filament chewing. Wonder if it could be adapted to work with the TAZ.

Interesting concept. There are a few design issues to work through.

  • Since the planetary gears are mounted on what are basically springs, they won’y mesh with the main gear properly. May not be an issue for feeding but may introduce backlash when retracting.
With brittle filaments (like PLA) the relatively tight radius of the drive gear may lead to frustrating breaks in the filament.
It seems to break the basic engineering concept of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple St****d). That many moving parts will almost certainly turn out to be a maintenance nightmare.
