Hello everyone! I am an assistant technician for a local community college and I am continuing to have issues. We had purchased a new left extruder wire assembly that included the thermistor, hotend, extruder harness, and extruder fan. I am now finding new issues that didn’t occur previously. I have been finely adjusting the thumbscrew to have the filament be pushed correctly, but once it seems perfectly dialed in, the extruder hobb chews on the filament, so much so that the filament isn’t even touching the hobb anymore. As such, it just sits there without being able to be removed or extruded. It them seems to get stuck in the filament guide inside the extruder assembly. I have had to disassemble the extruder twice to get at the issue. Does anyone have any ideas to solve either problem? Thanks

Hello,

So we have a better grasp on the possible causes for this issue, are you able to provide us with the material type and brand that you are using?

What temperature are you printing at as well?

Hello! The issue has occurred with both 3D-Fuel Standard PLA and PolyTerra PLA at 200-220 degrees C

Is it stripping the filament during the “change filament” process, or only during prints?

It strips during both, but mainly during printing

So you’re saying the filament is stuck in the black plastic guide at the top of the extruder?

If it strips while loading, you’ve got a jam. Do some cold pulls, then verify that the nozzle is installed correctly. It’s easy to hit the wires when trying to remove or install a nozzle, so ensure there’s no power to the nozzle, but the hot end should still be hot when doing it.

You can also try sticking something the size of the extruder to se if the problem is just from residue.

No, it gets stuck in the conical filament guide. I made a square around it in blue

It traditionally is able to extrude some amound before stripping, so it’s likely not a jam in the nozzle, but I’ll definately give that a try at some point

Try heating it to 245•c & clear the chamber
Then turn it off

I am having the same problem on a TAZ5 printer with a SE printhead. Initial filament feed is ok. Print may go for 1-2 hours before it strips out. Have used different PLA filaments and brands.
Printing between 200 and 220. See no restrictions on filament feed. Have adjusted tension with no solution. Have taken the head apart and the blockage is as described. I know this doesn’t help but have been fighting this for a couple of weeks.

Did you check retraction & speeds but if all else fails see if you can get a new toolhead

I have not tried to change those parameters directly, although I have used different PLA models.
I also reloaded the old version of Cura as the new version flagged some existing model as having an error, but no real change. What is frustrating is that I can find no consistent failure point. A model may work and fail the second time. I am still trying other changes, I would like to know what the problem really is.
I am looking at getting a new printer as mine is getting old although I do not think that is the problem. .
Thanks

Try & slow things down try 30 mm/ sec on the extruder
& for the retraction I would have to look at my settings
But retraction speeds are more more worthy

Hold up I got a idea to help you load both hot ends with cleaning n filament if you use PLA set it to 245•c I know it’s hot the point is to flush out the old filament & then if it’s been more than 15 minutes turn it off
