Parasolid files (.X_T) are only viewable by very expensive proprietary (commercial) software. Supplying your files in STEP (.stp) which is an ISO standard would make them more accessible. They could be imported into open source software such as FreeCAD, Heekscad, and possibly BRL-CAD.
Even though Solid Edge STEP export is awful at least it’s something.
thanks to lulzbot for providing the model files, so I could do this mod.
I also have a mod that gives 12mm of extra X axis travel, and some strengthened parts that may help with the x axis belt slipping off (The green parts in the picture above)
I’m trying to figure out which parts of the Gregs Wade extruder I need to print for both extruders. Can you post which parts you used? Did you use jonaskuehling_gregs-wade-v3_mirrored_repaired.stl?
When I load your STLs in Slic3r, they are really small - what scale should they be printed at? The ones on this forum and Thingiverse are the same tiny size.
Scale should be 100% AFAIK. Don’t know why they import tiny for you in Slic3r, here’s how the large and small gear imported in Slic3r looks like for me.
Please note that I have an AO-100 so my build platform is smaller than the TAZ (mine is 200x190mm).
Once the Motor Moved Extruder file is updated (it’s printing in mid-air in two places; see the pictures on thingiverse) I will have all the printed parts done. I’m getting together the list of hardware needed now. Looking forward to building it!
First post, Just paid for my TAZ, looking forward to it arriving. FedEx decided to price the cartage via “airplane” to Oz and not quantum tele-portation via the Moon and a parallel dimension, (thank Rachael, you help me out heaps!). First transport quote had me thinking Mr Obama was going to hand deliver it using Air-Force One and a motorcade…
Perhaps a silly question, but would smaller Nema motors keep the weight down on these dual head mods, or is that already the smallest one that will get the job done?
Ouch, yeah those quantum teleportation charges to paralell dimensions can be rough. that’s why I only ship things via quantum teleportation to perpendicular universes.
Regarding smaller Nema motors, that is definitly something that is at least being looked at. Check out this thread here for some information regarding efforts to make a smaller, lighter extruder https://forum.lulzbot.com/t/adjustable-heat-bed-glass-mount/38/1 Specifically they are going to look at a 20mm NEMA motor instead of the current one as a possibility. My own minor contribution to that extruder design piece, I also made a belt drive variant which should be slightly lighter in theory anyways. Assuming it works and doesn’t explode and all.
I think the general plan is once the flexystruder design is tested and tweaked to perfection, they will try it in a dual extruder array and see what happens.
I’d also like to see a “2 filliaments into one budaschnozzle” modification, but the timing and retract needed for that would be scary.
i’m thinking this (dual extruder) will be an early mod for me, as the parts i need to make have a fair amount of overhang, so I’m thinking ahead a bit.
