I am working on a auto-level method for my printer that involves lowering the Z axis down in certain positions, use user input via the LCD knob/button, then repeating the same. While that absolutely can be done, Marlin has built in Auto Level Compensation. The latest Taz 5 FW (2015Q3) has it included. You need to add an inductive sensor to the mix to do the probing. If you are comfortable with soldering and code it is an easy install.
