TAZ drivers.

The developer of the RAMBo controller used by the TAZ has made available a “signed” version of the driver. This will allow it to be installed on Windows Vista and above without triggering any security warnings due to an un-signed driver. It’s my understanding that Windows 8 will not allow a user to install an un-signed driver, which would preclude them from using the TAZ (or any other RAMBo equipped printer!).

The signed driver archive can be found here: http://www.reprap.org/wiki/File:RAMBo_USBdriver.zip

Thanks for the tip! We’ll update the file listings soon. I’ve been using a workaround to get around the signed drivers limitations, it’ll be nice to not have to disable that.

You’re quite welcome! Apparently johnnyr spent the money ($500 I think is the cert. cost) to have the RAMBo.inf file signed. This is a show-stopper for Windows 8 users as it’s my understanding that no amount of magic a typical user can perform will allow them to install an un-signed driver. Fortunately, uptake of Windows 8 has been pretty dismal (as it should be!). I have high hopes that someone with more sense than ego will dump the touch interface out of it entirely. It’s totally useless in a desktop OS.

Hey, thanks for that.

I’ve been using this: http://morriswmz.jit.su/posts/50ae51750bbb6c0000000003

  1. Bring up command prompt. WinKey + R > cmd
  2. Reboot the system by executing shutdown /r /f /o /t 0. Here “/r” means restart; “/f” will force the execution; “/o” will reboot the system with advanced boot menu; “/t 00” will set execution delay to 0.
  3. In the “Choose An Option” Screen, choose Troubleshoot > Advance Options > Windows Startup Settings and restart.
  4. Choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.
  5. Install the driver the normal way.
