Lulzbot Mini USB Support

Postby jkrokowski » Tue Jul 05, 2016 3:17 pm

After seeing a broken USB port on a Mini, we did a little design and came up with this USB support (so that solder is not also acting as a mechanical joint).

The whole idea is print one out, snap it into the opening for the USB port on the mini-RAMBO and it helps prevent the USB port from breaking off. Enjoy!

Nice! Does that line up with a Taz USB port as well?

I tried my Taz 5 and my Taz 6 and they did not.

Does installation require opening up the RAMBO enclosure?

Edit: It doesn't want to just slide in on my mini. Do newer minis already have some kind of support added?

We had a little concern about customers forgetting to remove the USB support before opening the electronics enclosure. This can potentially cause damage to the board, so be sure to remove the old support before opening!

We have a new revision available that clips directly to the RAMBo board, and will not need to be removed when opening the electronics case.

Let us know what you think!

I have seen two just in the last two weeks that were not removed before 'trying' to remove the cover, and it tore the USB connector right off!

I will have to print some of these new ones out and start using them on the machines.

Thank you!

Since it clips to the Rambo board, does this revised design require opening up the case?
