Other Printer Host Software OctoPrint - Linux, works well on a Raspberry Pi BotQueue - Mac and Linux only for now, works well on a Raspberry Pi Repetier-Server Cross platform with some work, Linux and Raspberry Pi installation is easy.
For determining the optimal temperature to use with a given branch & color of filament, I found this print temperature calibration procedure to be extremely helpful:
I used the Lulzbot draft Slic3r config with a .2mm layer height - each print took just under an hour (you’ll need one print for each temp to test…so 3-4 prints at a minimum). If layer adhesion is an issue for you, absolutely give this a try - getting just the right temp makes a world of difference.
I saw this last week and think it is pretty helpful to beginners just getting started in 3D printing. beginners get started using ABS plastic, but advanced 3d printing can do some really amazing stuff. http://www.printdetective.com/3d-printing-infographic
