TAZ LED Power Supply

I am installing LED strips based on piercet’s set up. Can anyone tell me where the best place to pick up the 12 volt power for the LEDs would be? The 12 volt aux power (X30) the fan is connected to? The 12 volt main coming to the switch from the power supply?

This is on a TAZ 2 with a Rambo 1.1b board. It looks like the leds will pull around 0.5 amps on the 12 volt source.

The 12 volt to the fan should be fine for that. Those LED strips don’t draw much amperage at all. Thats what I am planning on connecting to.

Another option would be a 24 volt to 12 volt step down transformer.

I’ve either powered them directly from the power supply as an always on light, or connected to Fan1 as well, so it can be controlled through Gcode.

24 volt power supply is the issue there. the light strips are 12 volt.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure the fan connector would handle it since the fan only draws 0.028 amps if I remember correctly.

If you didn’t have that fancy TAZ 3 you would have to worry about it.

I wired it in where the power supply leads come into the Rambo board then wired it to a switch.
