Z-Offset Adjustment?

Noob question:
Are the Z irregularities in the attached image normal or might the Z-Offset need to be fine tuned?

It looks to me like you're either over-extruding or too close to the bed. You can easily check your z-offset using M501, change it with M851 and save the change with M500 (in case you didn't know). Check your filament diameter. It may be larger than what your slicer is set for. Also I would check my extrusion multiplier in my slicer. It might be set over 100%

Thanks! I'll check. I know my z-offset was set at -1.19 before it shipped...
Will read more. (Have yet to send g-code directly to printer.)
