will filament get old ? have a rash of filament broken by extruder and near reel when we come to work . we try not to put filament in a bind. some just seems more brittle.

Short answer: not realy, at last if it’s stored at normal conditions. Even the more expensiv, much more flexible PLA we use at work starts snapping over night when the reel is getting empty (=the inner diameter the PLA is used to gets lower). Simply remove the filament after your last print.
