BuildTak Flexplate System

Thanks, do the first layers seem to go down just as even as before or do you notice more high / low spots using the BuildTak magnetic plate system?

It will take some adjustment. Mine looks really consistent now. Around the same time I bought this I started being a little crazy about ensuring my taz is square and level. The thing that might trip you up is the left hand side where the z adjustment goes will raise the print surface if you are not careful. Make sure you’re sitting about 1 mm or so off it. The other thing to keep in mind is you don’t need to have the build surface perfectly lined up on the x and y. I picked up a [1] digital level and have been using it to ensure that the machine and print surface is level. I have the printer sitting on a marble remnant from a local counter shop. Going this extra mile really helped me get much more consistent prints overall.

Thanks, you mention a z adjustment on the left side. Are you printing with a TAZ 4 or 5? The reason for my question is I have two TAZ 6’ and I’m wondering how its Auto bed Leveling will perform with the removable Buildtak plate.

The glass is supposed to be flat, I’m not so sure about the Buildtak magnetic plate?

I’m using a TAZ 6. In my case I cracked my glass plate removing a print, so I just replaced the glass plate with the build tac plate. My printer has the [1] modular print bed heater upgrade. When I was still running my glass plate I noticed that the print bed heater didn’t uniformly touch the glass plate so I added an [2] insulation layer for it to sit on. This removes the flex from the modular print bed heater. After removing the damaged glass plate I just placed the BuildTak system right on top of the modular print bed heater. Hopefully the image I attached comes through. I outlined on it where you can get hung up placing the flex plate.

Thank you for the information with pics and links. I might be interested in that insulation on Amazon. Looks like you have a pretty nice setup now. The Buildtak must be pretty flat if you’re getting good first layers without the glass.

It probably helps that the 0.5 mm nozzle that Lulzbot equips their printers with can give a good fat 1st layer to help cover up small errors in their Auto Bed Leveling Process. Only tapping the corners relies on having a near flat print surface.

Shipped Friday got it in Texas Monday morning.
