Mini 1 with meteor printhead

Can the mini 1 with the universal adapter be used with the meteor printhead?

And I am noticing in Cura LE that under the mini 1 that the meteor printhead doesn’t popup.

Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks!

They’re completely open hardware and software, so there’s a workaround for everything.

There’s nothing stopping it from working with a firmware mod and adapter plate and wiring harness.

But it’s a bit of a question of why?
You need the adapter plate/wiring ($30), and a $395 meteor toolhead. That’s well $400 to get a pretty small build area and have something that won’t perform as well as a more up-to-date printer. That’s right in range of something like a Sovol SV08, which is pretty good in terms of open hardware/software as well, and the Sovol will run circles around it in print area and speed.

Probably not as reliable in 10 years, maybe, but unless it’s in a production environment, I wouldn’t drop $400 on keeping a mini 1 in action if it’s my budget.

But you may be keeping a mini1 that’s part of a business workflow and want to get more out of it… in that case, it can be done, and the modifications to Marlin aren’t tough.

well the alternative is to keep using what I have for nothing.

$400 for a meteor head or maybe a M175 which seems to be supported but not the version 2

or $1700 for a mini 3 which is only marginally larger

or I suppose as you suggest somewhere in between with a another company

not sure what needs to be changed to support the meteor or M175V2 heads

or if it is an electrical connection issue

but if you don’t know that’s fine.

I was hoping someone could answer the question

Meteor 2 has the same stepper motor wires, heater wires, and thermistor wires as any other toolhead. The Mini3 uses some canbus (or usb?) connection and is very different from everything else lulzbot has done.

If you send the right gcode commands to adjust nozzle offsets, steps/mm and settings, the M175v2 can run on the mini1.

I haven’t seen enough about the mini3 to really recommend it. On paper, it’s a long-term viable printer with some great features, but at 1700? I would get a Creality K2 Plus and have 4x the build area.
