I’ve noticed that the 3mm ABS from Village Plastics has been very low on stock for quite some time now. I’m wondering if the 3mm ABS is being discontinued and perhaps becoming a supply problem.
I’ve read that most of the newer 3D printers other then Lulzbot use 1.75mm plastic instead of the 3mm.
No, there are still quite a few printers that use 3mm fillament besides the lulzbot ones. 3mm works better for Bowden setups since it allows for retraction and extrusion easier. 1.75 is better for direct drive extruders which are smaller, but have less extrusion force. Since they are smaller they are cheaper so many manufacturers favor them, even though they are not necessarily better extruders overall
