With the recent news from Lulzbot and the obviously mod abandoned forums I’ve decided to make a backup of the OP as a precaution. If the forums become inaccessible I’ll add the instructions to the git repo at some point.
Thank you!
So, I bought a Taz5 a while back that has a flexion extruder and a bltouch added to it. It has very sketchy firmware that was complied a long time ago. It suffers from many odd errors. Stepper motors deciding to run the wrong direction inconsistent application of offsets, very poor bed leveling. Missing settings on the printer. And the list keeps going. Now, I know zero about compiling firmware or making any type of firmware changes on the printer at this point. Here is my dilemma, the firmware that is currently on my printer so no where to be found. I reached out to the original printer owner that did the mods himself and he advised me that the computer that had the firmware files on it was lost in a flood this last year. So… I am wondering if anyone can get me rolling in the right direction on figuring out how to get the newest version of firmware for the Taz5 modded for the upgrades that I have and then pushed to the printer. If anyone happens to have a firmware that would just straight work that would be amazing but… I am looking for at minimum being pointed in the direction of where to get a cliffs notes version of how to make the changes to stock firmware myself. Again, I KNOW NOTHING about firmware in any way.
Thank you
Jeramy
If you end up finding anyone that can help you the Firmware for this mod is here, https://github.com/SBachman/BLTouch-Taz-5
I no longer have a Lulzbot so I’ll be very passively maintaining this repo as people make bug and merge requests.
Awesome thank you for the info
Hi guys, this has been very cool to read and catch up on. Has anyone got this to work on a mini?
Where? In the firmware or in the start gcode?
BTW, Thank you for posting this. Saved me a butt load of time.
It’s September 2020 and I would like to know if there is a Marlin firmware upgrade which will support the BLTouch. I do have a version written for me by Chris Riley but I am not sure how to flash it since I am accustomed to doing it through Cura.
I noted a link which showed work Ver 2.0 + done by Scott Lahtiene at Thinkyhead but was not sure if this was a recommendation to use. I really need to get auto leveling set up on my TAZ5 but no one returns my phone calls or my emails.

Hey guys, thanks for all the posts. Its been a real interesting ride. Got the firmware up and running, but i cant seem to find the picture of the wiring you all mention. Can anyone help me out. Im wiring an old taz 3 which i have converted to a taz5.
Never mind, I found a good picture here: Taz 6 BLTouch Upgrade.pdf - Google Drive
Thanks Menissalt, I appreciate all the work.
Is there anything I need to change in the code before it will compile? I’m getting an error for Left_Probe_Position
