Lulzbot Mini not Extruding

I just got a Lulzbot Mini from a friend who got it a few years ago. It is completely new, not even opened. I was following the Instruction Manuel and there was a step were you test if the filament extrudes, I tried, and it didn’t. I spent the next hour tinkering and now I’m stuck. What should I do.

Did you feel it get pulled into the extruder at all? The extruders most of these use benefit from trimming the end of the filament into a V shape to avoid snagging during loading.

What mini do you have? Mini 1 has screws to lift the extruder, Mini 2 has belts to lift it.

I have the Mini 1. I didn’t feel it get pulled into the extruder.

There may still be some filament left over from the test print at the factory, but if the temp is up to about 200c, and you see the motor turning, it should pull the filament, at least some.

If not, loosen the catch, and open the idler arm and look for obstructions.

With the hot end at 200c, you should be able to just push filament down the tube through the hot end and have some filament come out. If not, up the temp to 220c, and try again. If it still feels jammed, up the temp to 250c, and use one of your 2.5mm hex wrenches to try and push stuff out.

I just used the hex wrench idea and a lot of filament came out. But now, I’m trying to extrude it again and it is still not working. What should I try now?

I just got it working! Thank you so much!

In the future every once & a while flush out the extruder with heat if your using PLA generally speaking 245•c is enough then force filament through this is for certain brands only & Lulzbot is one of them
