Mini 2 - X Axis Impacting on Print Start

Hi everyone,

We have an older Mini 2 at the library where I work, and we’ve been running into issues when upgrading to the latest version of Cura LE ( 4.13.16) and the machine’s firmware.

After a fresh install of Cura LE and flash of the machine’s firmware, the first print will come out just fine.

The extruder acted up a little on the second print, so it was aborted so we could clean the plate and start again. The issue started when everything started home - Y and Z axis was fine, but on the X axis the extruder assembly just slams into the the left side of the printer and makes a loud grinding noise.

Power cycling does not seem to alleviate the issue at all - I’ve moved the assembly back some, and even tried to push a little down along the Z axis in case and the the autohome reacts the same.

I’d really, really like to avoid rolling back Cura if I can help it because Cura seems to give better print estimates than the v3 iteration (it matters to our kids booking time on the printer) and it starts a little faster on our older laptop.

Any advice?

It sounds like your bump sensitivity might be set too low.

On LCD:
On the LCD screen of your Mini 2, go to this location:

Menu > Configuration > Advanced Settings > TMC Drivers > Sensorless Homing

Change the x value to one lower than the current setting (4 to 3, 3 to 2 etc).
Remember the lower the number for the sensitivity, the more sensitive it will be.

To save the setting, go back to Configuration and press “Store Settings”. You will hear a beep noise that indicates the setting has been stored.

Thank you - I’ll give that a shot and see how things go!
