Nozzles clogging

As nopick stated above, your shipping costs kill the deal. After some research it looks like your regular ABS filament is the exact same as the “PRO” from matterhackers. They charge the same price for the spool but do free shipping and are very local to me. I have ordered from them in the AM and had the filament of my porch by that evening or the next morning. You guys, your products, your filament, are your customer service are all great but 1-2 day free shipping is just too tempting.

Edit: I forgot to add. I was able to run my printer for a 10 hour print yesterday. I had to use up the remnants of 4 old spools so my print looks like a rainbow, but using zero bad filament I was able to run a nice long clean print. I should have the PRO filament delivered tomorrow. I am excited to see if this fixes all my issues. If so, I can now turn my attention to the frusturation known as slic3r.

nopick,

Harris from LulzBot here, I’m going to PM you with my email, have a few quick questions so we can figure out what’s going on with this shipping estimate.

Thank you!

OK.

Yes shipping cost are always seem significantly higher from Lulzbot in comparison to the other suppliers.

We currently use three warehouses (Philadelphia, the UK and Toronto) in addition to sometimes fulfilling orders from our Colorado headquarters, so the order fulfillment/shipping system will pull estimates from other warehouses to aid in completing orders with minimal splitting. We’re always willing to help identify what product is where, so if a shipping estimate seems odd, just let us know!

Also, we’ve been working on a wholly new Django website that will show where products are in stock when you view them. This will be real nice, I can’t wait.

Did Harris ever find out why shipping to KS is so high for a roll of ABS?

We checked the system that day and it looked like it was pulling from Toronto that day and we were in the middle of restocking more filament in Philadelphia (where we ship filament from domestically).

As Jebba mentioned, new Django site will fix this by informing customers where the products are in stock. Needless to say we’re all excited

If you’re still getting those high estimates let me know and I’ll have our shipping manager look further into it. Sorry about the inconvenience!

FYI.

Those estimates are still coming in at $14.36 for a one kg spool of black shipped to KS.

nopick-Hm. Can you PM me your exact address? We just pulled a quote from our system to the ZIP code you provided me previously and it came out as $10.57 for FedEx Ground shipping. Thanks!

Why not use the flat rate USPS boxes.? That would keep your shipping prices down and consistent.

I just got my TAZ4 this past Wednesday and was able to print two copies of the octopus right off the bat with no problems. I then went to print “scaby” and about half way thru the print, I got a cog. Using a technique suggested earlier, I was able to put the filament out from all the way to the nozzle. At the very end I found that the clog was caused by a metal filing! I ran “scaby” again and got another clog at about a quarter of the way thru. This time I had to take the nozzle off. Again I found a little metal filing! About the run it again…

Re: filament prices and shipping, we now offer free shipping for orders over $50 to customers in the USA, Canada, and European Union

Mind sending in an email to Support@lulzbot.com with the following information?

  • Order number

  • 3D printer serial number

  • Contact information

  • Shipping information

If you take the nozzle off, run about 200mm of filament through the hot end with the nozzle removed.

Thanks!

Claudio

Hi, new here. I just read this entire thread because I got a jam after 3 weeks on my new TAZ 4. Took off the nozzle, soaked in acetone for a couple hours, and found a very small metal chip. Tested it and it’s magnetic. Put everything back together and ran two nice prints last night. I’m using IC3D filament, and I was on the natural at the time of the jam.

I’ve heard that It can happen be because of filament. For instance, if it’s coming from an untrusted supplier, it can have shards from the ball bearing or something, during the production process.

If you encounter that again, take the nozzle off and run a long extrusion through the hot end with the nozzle removed.

Orias, thanks. I did that, actually, at the time. There were a number of details I omitted for the sake of brevity. I cleaned the teeth on the hobbed bolt with the pick and wire brush included, and used canned air to blow everything off. Ran about 200mm through the nozzle, once reinstalled. I’ve also gone back to the Black spool of IC3D filament, as I seem to have better luck with it. So far, I have five successful prints. I do a get a suspicious click from the extruder from time to time, and I am still not sure why. It’s done that since I first got the printer. Doesn’t seem to influence print quality.

Orias,
Is occasional clicking coming from the extruder normal? I would say it happens approximately once in every 1-2 revs of the large gear, but not in the same place. I’ve watched the setscrew on the small gear to make sure, and it doesn’t happen at the same point on either the small or large gear. So I’m wondering if it is the hobbed bolt skipping on the filament, but I can’t tell. It has done this since the printer was new, about 4 weeks ago, now.

Thanks,
Artteque

I have had this problem in the past, for a couple reasons.

  1. The washer that should be under the nut on the hobbed bolt was installed on the back side of the bearing.
  2. The hobbed bolt nut was a little loose. Just snug it up a bit.

You may have other problems, these are just the two that caused random clicking from the extruder drive on my unit.
