New Taz 5 Owner unboxing experience

For what it’s worth, That’s definitly not an origional TAZ box. Both my AO-10X and my TAZ came in boxes that you could probably run over and not crush (well with a very light car anyways) and custom packing foam that conformed to the entire dissassembled 3d printer and allowed for no movement with at least 3 or more inches of packing materials on all sides. You should talk to whoever you got it from and yell at them for a while for shipping a delecate instrument that way, and then demand your shipping costs back.

Uptime, if you want to see what it should look like from us, see this unboxing by another customer, for instance:

If it doesn’t look like that box, with foam like that, it didn’t come from our factory. I would be interested to hear where you acquired it.

Thanks!

-Jeff

Can be used with this:

I don’t have one of those. I decided to use my digital headspace gauge. Which, unfortunately has the tab on the back 90deg from the mount plate on thingiverse or the one for harbor freight.

So I designed and printed my own adaptor plate that has a horizontal dial mount (with supports to prevent warping and flexing during measurements). I haven’t uploaded the STL file but if anyone needs/wants a mount plate with a horizontal tab on it, I can pop it on thngiverse.

As for use, you are not measuring a precise distance. You are measuring a DIFFERENCE in distances. Home everything. Zero your gauge. Move to the right front corner. You adjust the bed corner until the dial reads zero (or near it). Home it all again and recheck zero. Then to the back right. Again, adjust corner to read zero. Home and recheck zero. Back left should already be zero if the bed is flat but if not, adjust it too. Check the 4 corners again. Then check center. All should be zero. I checked my bed in 17 points (4x4 grid plus center) and my bed is flat as no measurement deviated more than half a thousandth from zero.

  1. That is most definately NOT a Lulz box.
  2. The frame and y carriage must be assembled
  3. The frame inside the box is horizontal, not vertical.
  4. Their foam is black.

That is NOT LulzBot packaging. My Taz came in a heavy logo printed box packed with laser cut foam inserts to securely hold the components against shipping damage. I swear I could smell the clean Colorado mountain air as I opened it  (not really, just an exaggeration)

I bought the TAZ5 directly from Lulzbot through your web site.

Inside the plain box from Lulzbot, there was indeed laser cut foam. Here is another picture of the box immediately after opening it.

Ok, we have to look into this, and we’ll get a new one out to you ASAP. Because this most definitely didn’t come from our factory packed like that. Can you send your order number to support@lulzbot.com please?

Edit: also any photos of all labels that may be on the box would be of use it tracking it down.

Thanks,

-Jeff

:open_mouth: Thats one hell of a QC failure!

In all seriousness my printer came packaged just like the others have mentioned, in a bullet proof box, packed perfectly. Honestly that looks like the shipper reboxed the package because of shipping damage and did not bother to tell anyone. I would open a case with the shipper with Lulzbot’s assistance so that shipping gets refunded.

Thanks!
Steven

Nevermind, looks like Lulzbot is one step ahead in making it right!

Jenna,
My box, that was shipped directly from Aleph Objects, Inc. did not look like that. My TAZ was shipped vertically. The print head was loose inside. Could it be that FedEx had a problem and repackaged it? The packing label appears to have been removed and re-applied.

See attached picture of the shipping label (I covered my name address and phone number).

Jeff, the order number is 29335.

Thanks for responding.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. It definitely looks like someone repackaged it. We have enough to go on here, but it will take a couple days to get responses from FedEx for them to look it up, etc.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Following up, the order number, tracking number, and all that looks correct, so the only answer is someone repacked it between leaving our factory and arriving there. This would be unusual for FedEx to do (I can’t think of a previous case), but there aren’t a lot of other possibilities. I have sent info to them to investigate.

Thanks,

-Jeff

FedEx says it is “conceivable” that they did it if the original box got damaged. We will file the full damage report with them tomorrow.

-Jeff

You don’t need to use the motors. Simply disable them in the driver or on the LCD and slide the bed and carriage by hand. Far faster. Far easier.

The damage report was filed with FedEx this morning. When we get more info, we’ll let you know. Your replacement machine went out today.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Jeff,
I received an email and call from your customer service group today. You have shipped, for overnight delivery, a replacement TAZ5 and an empty box for return of the mishandled original. That’s OUTSTANDING customer service – well above and beyond my expectation!

Thank you very much!

Aldo

Awesome!

Uptime,

Great, glad we’re getting it squared away for you.

We’ve submitted all the docs about the old box too, we should get info back from FedEx on that in a day or two.

Thanks,

-Jeff

This whole thing does my heart good!
I received my TAZ 5 today in excellent condition, and should be up and printing tonight.

When I decided to go Lulzbot over Ultimaker 2, I was sold on the costumer service, and Boy-O-Boy were they right. Good job Lulzbot!

Just got mine on Tuesday and the bed leveling was a mess for me too. Right now my front left bed holder is almost totally unscrewed while my back left is almost fully tightened. I had to play with the Z homing to get it to a point where the one of the two weren’t maxed out. The right bed holders are somewhere nicely in the middle for both so it makes me wonder if something is twisted? And I can attest that the phone support is great I can get someone without being put on hold no problem, but I tried e-mailing support first and still haven’t gotten a response back.

We have a claim number, but no further info from FedEx at this point.
