FedEx says 5-7 business days after submitting a claim. Still waiting for more info.
Still haven’t heard anything from FedEx. I’ll follow up again.

Since customer feedback is always a bit one-sided (most people only get in touch if something doesn’t work) I thought I’d add my unboxing experience:
I ordered my TAZ 5 from Amazon (in order to support a podcaster using his referal link), and it arrived safe and sound about 3 days later at my doorstep via UPS in LA. I am a technically savvy person, but have no clue about 3D printing so I was curious how fast I would be able to do my first print. The package was original with small Lulzbot stickers on it and when I opened it up, I was greeted by a good bunch of packing material as well as the official quickstart guide. Even though I was extra careful - sweaty palms and all - It took me no longer than maybe 35 minutes to set everything up. Once I noticed how well the machine was built, I also got a bit more confident handling it.
My printer was already so well set up that I also went through the calibration and leveling process in maybe another 10 minutes. When I printed my Rocktopus, it was of comparable quality to the cephalopod mollusc that shipped with my printer. So from a customer point of view - this was one of the best experiences I had with a product aside from companies in consumer electronics who spend an ungodly amount of money on packaging.
My only gripe is that connecting the fans of the extruder head was a guessing game and I only saw later in this forum, that I was lucky by pairing up the wires correctly. The manual was very unspecific on this and I would love to see a one-pager with clear instructions for people like me in each new TAZ box that leaves the factory if mixing up the wires indeed causes the smaller fan to fry. Aside from this, I am happy as a clam.

Cool, thanks for letting us know. We are marking the fan connectors better now and in the next revision I think it is keyed.
This is what I have from FedEx so far, about the printer that was shipped after FedEx reboxed it (note, we got the user a new machine immediately):
Yes, the fan connectors was a mistake in human interaction design. I am pretty sure someone somewhere said “Hey, we can just use the same connectors we already have in stock. It won’t cost us anything and we won’t have to wait for anything to come in!” There should never be two connectors that could be mated that would damage components. Ever. If someone CAN plug anything into anything else in the nearby area in such a way as it will toast a component, then connectors should be the first line of defense in preventing that. A little yellow dot doesn’t cut it, especially when its hidden on the underside of the connecter where you actually have to go looking for it. Had I not seen that yellow dot on one of the head connectors, I would not known to look for it on the harness connectors.
There are too many options available to prevent the issue from ever happening. There are some things you have to idiot proof. This is one of them.

If you MUST use two 2 pin connectors on the head, change the sex of one pair. For example, the 5v fan connectors should have been swapped sex wise so they were opposite from the 24v pair. The male on the harness, female on the fan. This would prevent anyone from connecting a 5v fan to a 24v supply. This would have cost NOTHING to do since Lulz would be using the same stock, same parts, same pins.

Change the number of pins. There are 3 pin versions of the same connector. Simply use those and use the outer two leaving the center empty. Again, impossible to plug it into the 2 pin connecter and fry something. A minor cost increase from 2 pin connectors to three but sill within reason, 32c per Taz buying the smallest stock level (1) or about 16c per thousand (thats for TWO 3 pin connectors instead of TWO 2 pin connectors).

Silly to have all the connectors in the first place. One multi-row connector could have been used so there is only ONE connector and ONE way it can be plugged in. A large enough main connecter with some extra spaces left sans pins/sockets for future expansion, say 14 or 16 position in 2 rows. Yall already have people adding pins to the RAMBO housing plugs and sockets, whats the difference in having them add to a single multi-row connector at the carriage end too?
The Mini has a connector for the tool head similar to this- as we release new versions, we’re always looking at how to improve designs in the next iterations.
FedEx is going to write a letter explaining what happened to the person who received a TAZ that FedEx reboxed.

wolfie, I agree. The whole connector is being redone.
On Monday I was told by FedEx we’d get something “soon”…
FedEx has written a nice letter on PDF. I will post it, but I need to block out the user’s name which is in the doc.
