Printer does not accept commands

I got a printer and I’m printing for the first time I get an error message that says “Printer does not accept commands”. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Printer is Lulzbot TAZ Workhorse.

You have to provide us with more information. What is the printer connected to (including OS) and how (i.e. where did the cable come from)? What slicer are you using? Can you put files on the SD card and print successfully?

When you turn the printer on, there is some information displayed on the LCD screen including the firmware version. Tell us what you see.

There is no such thing as too much information. The more we have, the better support we can provide.

Hi Morgan, I will give that information as soon as I can, but for now all I can tell you that I’m using USB cable, I don’t have a SD card on the machine and I’m using Cura LE slicer.

Thanks

First thing to try is a reboot of the machine, and a different USB cable.

Cura also may not be auto-detecting the printer and require that you manually select the COM port it’s using.

I already try two different cables and I get the same result.
How do I reboot the machine, turn the switch off and then on or is there another way?

Yep. Just power off and on.

Hi Morgan,

The firmware version is marlin 2.1.3.0.29

I tried an SD card and I got an error message on the display that said “Media Init Fail”
The cable that I’m using I bought at microcenter, I don’t know the brand because I lost the packaging.

Looks like it is detecting the port is shows com5. I uninstall cura and deleted cookies and reinstall cura and it did the same thing, I also notice there is an error on the screen

The error is
heating failed: bed
Printer Halted
Please Reset

You need to check the connections to the bed (build plate). It looks like the thermistor is working as 17.56c is a (rather cool) room temperature. Verify that the heater connections are good. Also check the fuses on the controller board. @Wrathernaut may be able to provide you with better instructions (or links).

You haven’t said anything about the origin of this printer but I assume it is used and you may have inherited the previous owner’s problem(s).

Hi Morgan, I got this machine from my work they brought it and used it a couple of time and then it was put in storage for about 2 to 3 years and then it was given to me. I thought it was going to work with out any issues because this is basically a new machine. I check all the connections to the table and they are good , my next step is to check the fuses hopefully that would fix the heating issue.

I finally got the machine to work, I open the machine to check te fuse and I noticed that the cables for the bed were not connected to the mother board, I guess that who ever put the machine together forgot to connect it. I’m very excited that is workin and that I did have to spend any money to fix it.

Thank you guy for your help.

My machine is now working but, I have another issue. I prints want to print on bottom left corner of the bed even if I set the object to print on the center. I pretty sure is something simple but I have not been able to fix it go print on the middle of the bed. Can someone help?

Thanks.

Origin at center should not be enabled. If this box is checked, anything placed in the center of the bed in the slicer is considered at 0x 0y. Firmware puts 0x 0y as the bottom left corner.

I changed the setting looks like is going to work.

Thanks for your help
