TAZ PRO DUAL wont print

I’ve been using the “print via USB” command exclusively for 1.5 years now. But this last 2 weeks, the printer does its normal heating and leveling routines, but after it attains proper heat levels it just…stops. It hangs there forever while the timer and the progress bar gains a steady stream of ones and zeroes.
I’ve reuploaded the new firmware twice and it still does the same nothing as explained above. Does ANYONE know what is going wrong?

USB cables tend to be a common failure that should be easy to check and replace. Windows may have updated something related to USB that is interfering with communication.

Easy enough to eliminate both those questions is to just throw the file on a USB stick and give it a shot.

If it hangs in the same place, check to see if your temperature isn’t stabilizing. If it isn’t stabilizing after a minute or two, it should time out and shut down the machine. If it’s not stabilizing, something about your heating situation may have changed - machine is sitting in a draft now, thermistor may be loose/failing, heater may be failing etc.

You do have a dual hotend, so you can do some heater and thermistor swaps to see if the problem follows those parts.

So I should check any loose screws, try a different USB cable, put a model on a flash drive, or if all else fails replace the head?

Swap USB cables, try a different windows PC, try a USB stick. All easy and more or less free things to try.

If it still fails, watch the temp. If it’s hitting target temp, but keeps going above and below it in a sine wave, it’s just not stable and could be parts on the toolhead (thermistor, heater) or just a bad PID setting from a firmware change, A/C in the house now being on, window being open, etc.

If it’s a temp issue, at most the things to replace on the toolhead would be heater, thermistor, heatbreak fan. Beyond that you might start blaming failing power components on the Archim2 board, or wiring failing.

The temp does maintain at a + or - 1 until it times out or I pause it and resume it.

On firmware 2.1.3.0.40, the temperature residency time (how long it needs to be at temp to be considered stable) is just 1 second, so if it’s fluctuating enough it can’t hit that target, I’d be looking at failing thermistor or faulty wiring.

its working via flash drive! I’ll try a different USB cable next.
