TAZ Pro Shutting Down

Hello all,

I am working on a TAZ Pro with M175v2 machine head.

I recently had a failed print that resulted in the hotend getting covered in PLA. I turned on the printer and heated up the hotend to soften the PLA.

I realize in retrospect that this was dumb to do, especially while the machine was on, but I was using a pointed metal pick to try to pull off the PLA that was in the cracks. I got too close to the heater cartridge on the back side of the hotend, and when I did, there was a spark, and the printer turned off.

Now, when I turn the printer on, it turns on like normal and I can navigate the menu items on the touchscreen. But now whenever I tell the printer to heat up the hotend, the printer quickly shuts off and comes back on again. The same happens when I try to send commands to move the X, Y, or Z axis. Interestingly, I can tell it to heat the bed and it does that fine without restarting. The thermistor seems to be reading the temperature correctly still as well.

I suspect that I fried something on the board…but I need help figuring out what to do next. Are there diagnostics I can run to figure out exactly what is wrong? Is there a way to repair the damage to the board, or am I looking at totally replacing it?

Thanks,

Phil

Probably just a blown fuse. Unplug the power from the machine, take the side panel off and check these fuses:

Chances are there’s some damage to the fragile thermistor and heater wires, so I would recommend replacing both before you power up the machine again, or you risk blowing another fuse (or worse).

Wow, thanks so much for the info. What a relief! Yes, I checked the fuses and one of the 5 amp fuses was blown.

@Wrathernaut, I have replaced the thermistor already so I have a good idea how to do that. But on my TAZ pro, the wires from the heater disappear up into the wiring harness and I don’t see any sort of clip connector like there is for the thermistor. I believe that this is the part I need for a replacement, but I see it comes with “bare pins”. How does one go about changing that?

The harness on the Taz Pro isn’t feasible to replace pins on, so you’ll have to put a two-pin connector in of your choosing on the wires to make your own connector.

Got it. That doesn’t sound too tricky. Thanks for the heads up.
