There’s nothing about coreXY kinematics that dictate putting the filament under the bed.

Not sure where you’re getting your numbers from or why it even matters but the mk3 uses a rambo board, just like most of the lulzbot printers. The mk4 uses the prusa proprietary buddy board. All of them should last well over 2000 hours or even 10,000-20,000 hours without any issues if they have proper cooling. Even if one does go bad, it’s only around $100 to replace. If you’re comfortable with firmware modifications then there are probably a dozen or more compatible boards you could throw in there for less than $50. Motherboard longevity should be the least of your concerns.
