Hey Yall!
I’ve noticed that I get way worse layer adheasion and accuracy when using supports than without.
Please see two calibration cubes completed with the same profile:
Is this a printer thing or can the Gcode differ that much between having a support and without?
Kind regards,
Corgi.
Correct me if I’m wrong but that looks like axis banding like z banding
Yes! I suspected the same thing a while ago, but according to the Octoprint Discord if that were the case both examples would be the same… Unless I’m missing something glaringly obvious?
Maybe there’s something going on with the z axis if the head moves too much? I’ll Try printing two cubes separately but without supports to see if that changes things.
Thank you!
It looks like very wet filament, combined with retractions and the printhead moving off the object. With the supports on, it’s retracting, moving off the cube, printing support, then returning. without support, layer changes don’t move away, so there’s less time for oozing, and it may not even be retracting, depending on settings.
So, tune your retracting and pressure advance, and use dry filament so it’s not so oozy. Every bit that oozes is filament that will be missing in the layer when it tries to continue printing.
