Hi all. My taz 5 hot end has seen better days but I’m struggling to find a suitable replacement. Is there a nozzle/extruder/ hot still available that can be retrofitted? My current one uses an M10 female nozzle.
That’s some ancient nozzle tech there. I’d say update to something with an M6, but if it’s still working for you? I guess just do a search for Budaschnozzle nozzles. This shop on eBay seems to be worth investigating:
But with a Taz 5? You can use any of the Titan Aero-based toolheads (SE 0.50, HE 0.50, SL 0.25, etc), M175v2 if you want to ditch 2.85mm filament, or even just swap over to the Taz 6 style head.
You may have to do something about the wiring harness though, but you can get around that if you just keep using those connectors if you really want.
Hi Wrathernaut, thanks for the reply. I’ll look into those extruders. The Budaschhnozzle seems really difficult to get any kind of spares for now, so I’d like to move onto something that has more support, that can print exotic filaments too.
If you’re sticking with 2.85mm, things are fairly limited, but building up a toolhead with the Orbiter Extruder for 2.85/3.0MM Filament and an E3D All-metal v6 HotEnd Full Kit 3.00mm Bowden (24v) | MatterHackers isn’t too bad. You’ll have to model up the mounts to put them together, but I’ve thrown everything from 65A ultra-soft filament to GF-nylon through the orbiter with no issues.
Upgrade from that would be a bondtech solution, but buying the parts yourself (You searched for lgx 2.85 - Bondtech) is more expensive than just buying a complete toolhead direct from lulzbot - LulzBot Meteor 285 Tool Head | Nickel Plated Brass | 0.5 mm
If you want my expert point of view based on the toolhead with 1.75 mm & the reason is their is less 2.85 mm filaments then their was before 2020
