Sidekick 747 BL Touch error?

Hi I"m a robotics mentor for FRC 6824. We were given a Sidekick 747 by First Nevada sometime ago when the team had previous mentors and it was never used. Literally still sitting there with the sample PLA for the Rocktopus waiting.

When we go to print, we keep running into BLTouch Error. Below is a copy of the Console Debug Log messages.

When we power the printer on, the BL Touch is solid red. If I go to Configuration → BLTouch → selftest, then the BL Touch just starts blinking red. Do we just have a bad one that needs to be replaced?

Solid red is usual for BLTouch in standby.

Blinking red - it could be hitting resistance before deploying.

Does it pop in and out when the machine is first powered on?

Sometimes? My original thought is that it acts like it gets stuck in the Up position. I can gently move it with my fingers in and out. Can feel it suck back up though (not sure if this uses a magnet or pneumatics?

We have the LCD screen. If I manually move it in and out a few times, then go to the BLTOuch menu. Self Test - 30% of the time it will move up and down multiple times. Then hit deploy, maybe 10% of the time does the probe drop and turn to blue color.

There is a tiny magnet in the hex screw at the top center of the BLTouch. Try backing it out a quarter turn at a time to reduce the strength of the magnetic connection at the top.

Yeah, I think I found that before I saw your last answer. Found the Bl Touch manual and it mentioned make a 180 degree turn if the probe was not deploying. Did that and the self test seems to be consistent now. Although I took way more apart then I needed to, didn’t understand how the BL touch was mounted since I was missing it in the OHAI instructions.

Starting some test prints.

THANK YOU! for taking the time to reply

No problem, and good luck.
