Taz 5 OG firmware?

I’ve recently acquired a Taz 5 3d printer. It’s my first printer and I’m learning as I go. Last night we printed from the SD card successfully and turned everything off and went to bed.
This morning I tried connecting to the printer via the USB for the first time. It connected and disconnected a couple of times. I sent a file to print and it seemed like the connection timed out while everything was warming up. I tried updating the firmware to see if that would fix the connection issues and that was successful however I get an E1 heating error message now.

I’ve tried to find an older firmware version online which I’ve installed but I don’t think it’s the same as what the printer has on it. The previous owner told me they had never updated the firmware so I think it was on the original one it came with. All of the links online for early firmware seem to be obsolete now.

Is there anything you can recommend that I try or does anyone have an original firmware for the Taz 5?

This was the screen when we got it of that helps to identify the firmware required.

That firmware there is over a decade old.

It may even be for the Taz 4.

I recommend installing CuraLE 4.13.16, and installing the latest Single Extruder firmware onto the printer. Not sure why, but they’re currently only including the 1.1x versions of Marlin instead of the 2.0.x

If you install CuraLE 3.6.40 - Index of /Cura_LulzBot_Edition/Windows/Cura LulzBot Edition 3.6/3.6.40 it has the 2.0 firmware you can give a try.

I have a sidekick 747 and hooked up a raspberry pi 4b. With octo print. It has a built in web server and works well with the connected usb arrangement. I’m happy with it. Also I use Fusion 360 to create my own parts. Not into all the toy ark stuff.

Hi Wrathernaut, thanks for the reply. I have CuraLE 4.13.16 and that’s what I was used for the first firmware update. I wondered if the firmware was too new for such an old machine. I’ve experienced this previously in other electronics. I was hoping to reset this Taz5 to how it was when I received it.

Nope, the firmware isn’t too new.

The same Rambo board is in the 4, 5, 6, and Workhorse. It’s well-supported by Marlin.

For some reason though, they no longer have the Marlin 2-based firmware for the older machine in the latest version of CuraLE. Even with Marlin 2 firmware included, Cura wouldn’t automatically update from 1.x firmware to 2.x.

Using older firmware with new Cura has some compatibility issues with nozzle offsets. Some offsets are set in firmware, others in the slicer, and when both try and set it, they cancel out or double-up on the corrections that need to be made.

Question to clarify which motherboard is the 2019 Taz workhorse the Same mother board as a 2024 taz workhorse (plus)
