TAZ 6 freecad files: errors

I downloaded some of the printable parts for the TAZ 6 from the Lulzbot site.

In particular I was interested in the extruder idler part.

I am intending to load it into a different CAD program so I can modify the design as easily as possible. I am NOT familiar with freecad. I wanted to export it to a DXF file type

When I loaded the freecad part file for the extruder idler into freecad, it seems that this 8 year old file format is no longer fully supported? It gives errors. And it cannot export the file to DXF as a result.

Are there newer versions of these files? Maybe a DXF type?

I believe this is the part you’re going for?

These may be more updated versions of the files that can be opened. If not, I did check that blender opens the .blend just fine and can output .obj or .stl files. They’re not as good as a .step file, but you can still make modifications to them easily in any CAD software.

Edit: It opened just fine for me in FreeCAD 1.0:

I’m not comfortable in FreeCAD, so exported a .step file that opened in OnShape, but needs some work:

And because I had time to kill at work, I made a cleaner .step file. Since this board doesn’t allow attaching .step files, take the .obj extension off the end and it should open up in most CAD software just fine. I put it together in OnShape, but tried opening in FreeCAD and OrcaSlicer, both imported it just fine.

Rename as .step not obj Extruder Idler Block_v1.4 - Extruder Idler.step.obj (104.3 KB)

Thanks!!! I will try it this weekend. It is no problem to change the file type once I down load it.

The Step file you made is perfect. I was able to import it directly into my CAD program: TurboCad. MANY thanks.

It is interesting that it opened just fine for you in FreecCAD. I will try again.
